About The Author
Garry Schaeffer has been a professional writer for over 22 years. He has worked his literary magic on books, articles, TV commercials, plays, and many other forms of business communication and entertainment. He has written two books and has ghost-written five (on sales and customer service).
In 1995 Garry wrote and published A Labor of Love: How To Write A Eulogy. This unique book has touched thousands of lives by helping people write and deliver the most emotionally-demanding speeches of their lives. Garry has brought a warm, supportive writing style to this book. He has pared down writing to simple steps that are clear and prescriptive, not merely descriptive. The book was not written off the top of his head; it was well-conceived and researched. The outcome is truly professional.
The reason Garry wrote A Labor of Love is explained in the book's preface:
In February of 1993, my wonderful grandfather passed away and I wanted to write a eulogy. I had never written one, so I looked for how-to books in the local library and book stores. There were none. That did not phase me, however, because I had been a professional writer for 13 years.
I sat down, trusted my creative ability, and was eventually pleased with what I wrote; so were my parents, my grandmother, and the many friends and relatives who attended the service. I know my grandfather would have been very proud, honored, and at times amused.
In the next 18 months I wrote two more eulogies; one for my grandmother and one for a close friend of 25 years who died of AIDS at 42.
I was convinced that a eulogy can play a valuable part in the healing process. At a time when memories are so important, the process of writing brings them to the surface to be relived. After you preserve those memories by putting them on paper and sharing them, a eulogy becomes a gift--to others and yourself.
I wanted to create a resource that quickly helped people write eulogies. I wanted people to realize writing and delivering a eulogy is a unique opportunity. Granted, not one you would want to repeat often, but an opportunity nonetheless.
Trust me, writing a eulogy can be a positive experience at a time when nothing seems positive.
Thank you for buying this book. I am confident it will work for you.
